Strong Weybridge Side Dominate 4s

The Weybridge skipper was asked as to the strength of his side at the toss; his answer ‘strongest we have been this season’. This assessment was to be proven correct as his team dominated the 4s from the first over.

Weybridge were inserted on what looked like a decent King’s Field wicket. An opening partnership of 80 set the platform for some attacking stroke-play during the second half of the innings, resulting in a total of 216-9 from the allotted 40 overs. The 4s attack each bowled well with wickets shared between Charlie Higgins (7-23-1), Ross Cathcart (8-37-1), Tom Dunmore (6-38-1), Connor Hewitt (4-21-0), Kiran Lathia-Hamblin (4-11-1), Graham Smith (6-39-2) and Nick Dunmore (5-34-2). The efforts of Hewitt and Lathia-Hamblin are to be commended as they slowed the Weybridge charge mid-innings. The final overs were delivered by the Dunmore combination; Tom showing his ability to bowl at the death, whilst his father picked up wickets with the two final balls of the innings, securing a bowling point.

Over an excellent Ken tea, the senior members of the 4s discussed that reaching the target would require a big innings from someone and a decent start.

The decent start to the 4s reply was provided by the excellent pair of opening bowlers, who gave nothing to score from for the 12 overs they operated together. The 4s were never in the chase and wickets fell regularly during the innings. Hewitt (38) batted maturely from the opening spot and held the innings together until the mid-point. Lathia-Hamblin (31*) came in at 6 and showed has ability with the bat as he took the side past the 150 mark for a batting point. 152 all out reflected the dominance of the Weybridge attack.

There were many positives to take from this defeat; an excellent ground fielding display, good bowling by the colts in the attack, the batting of Hewitt and Lathia-Hamblin.

Next week the 4s host Kempton, looking to avenge defeat from earlier in the season.
