Welcome to the Junior Section of Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club!

At HWRCC, junior cricket is built on a simple belief: cricket should be for everyone. We welcome children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, and we make no apology for aiming to be one of the most inclusive cricket clubs in South West London.

Our junior section is about much more than learning to bat, bowl and field. We want every young player to feel part of the club, to enjoy the friendships and confidence that cricket can bring, and to develop a lifelong love of the game. Cricket gives children the chance to grow as people: to build self-esteem, cope with setbacks, show courage, work as part of a team, celebrate others’ success and discover what they are capable of. Whether they are scoring their first run, taking their first catch, learning to lose well, or representing the club, county or region, we want our players to feel supported, valued and proud of their progress.

Inclusivity and performance are not opposites. We are proud to run a programme that gives as many children as possible the chance to play, while also supporting those with the talent and ambition to progress further. Over the years, many Wick juniors have gone on to county pathways, representative cricket and senior cricket at the club. That matters to us because it shows that a welcoming, community-based club can also nurture excellence.

We are especially committed to growing girls’ cricket and providing clear opportunities for girls to train, play and progress. We also aim to create a strong pathway from junior cricket into adult cricket at HWRCC, helping home-grown players become the future of the club.

Above all, we want our juniors to play the game in the right way: with enthusiasm, respect, resilience, team spirit and the Spirit of Cricket at the heart of everything they do. We are proud of the young cricketers who represent the Wick, and just as proud of the families, coaches and volunteers who make the junior section such a welcoming and vibrant part of the club.

The Junior Cricket Section at HWRCC aims to:

  1. Attract, welcome and retain players (and their parents/guardians) treating everybody equitably accepting differences in ability, gender, ethnic background, social background, schooling and other characteristics.
  2. Instil in players a lifelong love of the game and the social benefits of cricket.
  3. Ensure players approach the game with the Spirit of Cricket uppermost in their mind and uphold the Wick Values.
  4. Improve each individual’s cricketing performance regardless of their starting point.
  5. Increase participation in girls’ cricket year on year.
  6. Provide a resilient pathway of home-grown talent to play competitive adult cricket at HWRCC.
  7. Provide a pathway to support and develop exceptional players.
  8. Contribute to the financial health of the club.
  9. Reinforce the link between the Local Community and HWRCC.
