Do you offer discounted membership fees?
At HWRCC, we firmly believe that financial issues should not be a barrier to children playing cricket. If this is the case in your situation, please contact our Director of Junior Cricket (juniorcricket@hwrcc.co.uk) in complete confidence as up to 100% bursaries are available. We would much rather children played cricket than missed out due to financial pressures.
Where and when is training?
Training runs on different days for each age group. Please click here for details on training session timings for each age group. **LINK** Summer sessions all take place at the club in Bushy Park.
What clothing should my child wear to training?
Full club kit or whites is definitely not needed for practice sessions – comfortable sports kit and trainers are fine. Abdominal protection is required (for boys) when using a hard cricket ball – this applies to u10 and above only. Hats, sunscreen and plenty of water are essential for the warmer weather.
What clothing should my child wear for matches?
Ideally, players should try to be in our club kit, available from Serious Sports:
However, we recognise this is expensive. Second hand kit is available via our community on the Grassboots app **LINK**. If this is not possible, black sports kit, or anything that the child is comfortable wearing is more than acceptable. We would rather children played cricket than worried about not looking the part.
Does the club provide specialist cricket kit?
The club does have a wide selection of equipment. We would advise that boys have their own abdominal protection (box) when playing hardball (and a way of wearing it). Many children will bring their own equipment and the first piece of equipment we would recommend is their own gloves but this is not a necessity.
What happens if it rains?
In case of bad weather, the age group managers or lead coaches will communicate any decisions to postpone sessions via the usual club communication channels as soon as practically possible. Please make sure you are included in your relevant age-group communication channels
Who are the Age Group Coaches and Managers, and what do they do?
The Age Group Managers (AGMs) are your main point of contact. All of the AGMs are volunteers, and they are often (but not always) the parent of a child in the same group.
They help organise fixtures, make sure that responsible adults are available to run fixtures and communicate with parents on matters relating to selection, match arrangements and other admin.
Age group coaches will run training sessions and generally matches for their squads and take an overview of what needs particular focus. They will be supported in delivering training by the club coaches.
Can I be sure my child is well looked after?
Can I park at the club?
Parking at the club is extremely limited and from late June 2026 this will be worsened by the loss of the car park due to required access for construction of the new Pavilion. Therefore, please make every effort to get to the club in another way. Sunday mornings and Friday evenings are particularly challenging. There is limited parking around the club, depending on the time and day of the week.
How can I help?
All help is very welcome! The club is very much built on an ethos of volunteering, which is what retains its great character, and in many cases you don’t need to have any knowledge of cricket to help out. We value our volunteers in whatever capacity they choose to help the club, be it team management, coaching, scoring, umpiring, helping with the admin, fundraising, or simply helping with lifts to and from the ground. What is expected of me?
On joining the club, you undertake to abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct for parents and carers, and to make your child aware of the Code of Conduct for junior players. **LINK**
Can my child play outside of his / her age group?
We encourage children to play in their designated age group. Any exceptions to this are made in the interests of the child and factor in potential impact on other players.
If a player would benefit from playing in a higher standard, or is good enough to have a major impact in the A side of an older age group they may play the season in that age group. These players are typically in a county pathway and this will be agreed in advance with the Age Group Managers, coaches and Director of Junior Cricket. It is generally in the cricketing interest of a child to be a major contributor in their own age group rather than an average player in an older group. We also have to factor in the potential lost opportunity for players in the older age group.
If there are gaps in teams, AGMs will ask players from the age-groups below if they would like to play, having checked with that age group’s coach and AGM regarding suitability. Players will not be exposed to situations that are unsafe, either physically or psychologically and should prioritise their own age group in case of clashes.
Girls playing mixed cricket: Girls are permitted to play down 1 year in open (mixed) cricket and may be considered for these teams after discussion with AGMs and Coaches.
Can I recycle old equipment or playing kit?
